The quality comparison of this book next to other college level books (non-automotive) as a device for learning is both sloppy and poor. I read this edition for my course. It is cobbled information about parts/systems of automobiles. Pet peeve #1: Acronym usage, an acronym is explained once, sometimes several chapters back, and then used without an explanation or catalog of meanings to be found in the book. BAD for instructors who teach by jumping around. Pet peeve #2: I can go online and find basic symptom/cause charts. Why so few, and good luck finding them when you need them. Pet peeve #3: Conversion charts: 2. Metric to Decimal & General Bolt Torques. That’s it! Pet peeve #4: The book has a full SPANISH glossary of general automotive terms, remember peeve #1? No acronyms defined! In finality… As a dirty prep to get your students on the same idea for next class discussion, sure. But you could do just as well to do a little research and give them a bibliography of web address’.

The book was like new except that is was rubber-stamped on the inside of the front cover and it also had a number written on the pages in magic marker. For my purposes it was acceptable. However, if I needed an unmarked new book I would have had to return it.

This is probably the 4th book from Jack Erjavec that I have read. He was an instructor at a college I attended in the 90′s. Without a doubt, one of the most interesting men I’ve ever met. I am still in the automotive industry and have been for ten years. I will undoubtedly be learning from Jack my whole life.

this book is massive in a good way, like the majority of these books it doesn’t go into heavy specifics of automotive systems but it gives you a great understanding of everything. Would be a great book for anyone who like me is wanting to get into the automotive industry or just wanting to know how there car or any engine works.
