  1. Iam interested in purchasing a good Autoscanner. Is the Innova 3160 a good scanner for Mercedes Benz(2002)yr?

received my Equus 3160 two weeks ago, tried it on my daughters honda cr-v,and after doing the repairs proceeded to erase the DTCs and MIL (check engine light) but the scanner would not do it,I tried 4 times and every time it would come back saying “erase has failed, verify the connection at the DLC,verfy that the ignition switch is on) so I gave up and called the customer tech support, the tech support guy was very unpleasant!his style of speaking was more of a street bulley and he kept insulting my inteligence and finally told me to go to their web site and buy some troubleshooting help.I called back again that same day in the afternoon and this time the person at the other end after listening to me agreed that the unit may be defective and sugested that I send it to them for checkout and repair.

but I decided to pack it and return it for refund.I can understand electronic units can fail now and then even brand new,but with that kind of customer service I would not buy any product from that company.

After months of researching for a scanner, ( which this is my first) I feel as if my patience has paid off. I searched between various brands like actron, and found this one to offer the best price & ease of use. I compared this scanner to the Actron 9580 which were identical by features with the the innova 3160, and found that the innova had a much simpler operation. The actron required to scroll through menu to get info like the emission status of the car, unlike the innova that already displayed that info in the LEDs. I also chose it for being 30 bucks less than the actron. Although the actron is smaller, i don’t mind having the larger scanner at all, the actron losing ease of use for a more compact size.

Now for the scanner itself, I found it to be very useful in many different cars, like a 2001 sequoia, 2001 dodge ram van, 1999 venture, 2002 Isuzu rodeo, a 2006 GMC savana. It worked for all these cars, and I haven’t found a car it doesn’t scan. ABS is a bit harder, only on some cars did it function on. the best surprise was that I only had to open up the manual 2-3 times for some info on using it, to me that was a relief. The live data feed is another feature that helps you greatly when diagnosing, like sensor voltage, etc.

Bottom Line: you won’t be disappointed, great buy for the money, and a steal at this price. ( saved 120 bucks compared to sears)

I bought the 3160 after reading all the reviews posted. It paid for itself the first time I used on the ABS on a Chrysler 300m. Mechanic wanted $1300.00 to fix the problem when the ABS and TRACK lights came on. Order the scanner plug it in and got the code. Bought a used ABS pump for $65.00 and fixed the problem for a fraction of what they wanted. The units is easy use and the screens are easy to follow. I give it a four because I have to get a USB adapter for my laptop.
